Marriage
Northwest Community Church recognizes marriage as one of God's gifts to mankind. When God had nearly completed creation He noted that only one thing lacked: man needed woman. After He had created Eve, God again declared creation to be "Good". The foundation of marriage is God's provision for us.
The key need for a successful marriage, one that brings joy and fulfillment, is the selfless love that God gives us. He demonstrated that love when His son died on our behalf. Only a marriage built on that kind of love is fulfilling over the long term.
Our culture has distorted marriage and twisted the very definition of love. As a result many couples, even couples in the church, have a rough time living together. The idea that their marriage could be a source of joy or fulfillment is hard for them to imagine. If you find that despite the fact you live together you are living a lonely existence and suffering, we are here to help.
At Northwest Community Church we know from experience that apart from the miracle of a life transforming relationship with Jesus Christ there is no way two naturally self-centered people can have a fulfilling marriage. We have also seen God’s hand transform hearts of stone and re-make marriages.
You may find these two books to be good resources for your marriage:
- “Love Life for Every Married Couple” by Ed Wheat
- “Rocking the Roles: Building a Win-Win Marriage” by Robert Lewis and William Hendricks
You might also find the instructions of Paul in Ephesians chapter 5 to be helpful. Pastor Brian provided two messages on this passage in the summer of 2007. See Family Matters part 1 and part 2.
You may need more personal help. Please contact us if you desire the loving assistance of a pastor or a friend to help you through the tough road in your marriage.
