A Time for Giving Thanks

Enter His gates with thanksgiving
And His courts with praise;
Give thanks to Him and praise His name.
For the Lord is good and His love endures forever;
His faithfulness continues through all generations.

- Psalm 100:3

Some Christian attributes, such as holiness, love, and faithfulness, are godly traits because they reflect the character of God.  Other virtues are godly traits because they acknowledge and exalt the character of God.  This is true of attributes like contentment and thankfulness.

Thankfulness to God is the humble recognition that God in His goodness, love, and faithfulness provides and cares for us; all that we are and have comes from God.  Too often we are anxious to receive God’s bounty but too careless to give thanks.

The story of Daniel is familiar to many of us.  After it was made clear in the ancient city of Babylon that everyone must pray to Nebuchadnezzar or be subject to death, Daniel went into his room and, as was his daily habit, prayed to the King of kings; giving thanks to God.  This ultimately landed him in a den of hungry lions.  When things were as bad as they could be—death for believing differently than the country’s leader—Daniel teaches us a great lesson: our situation is never so desperate that it is not fitting to give thanks to God.

Operation Christmas Child

Our extended last Operation Christmas Child collection date will be this Sunday, November 23rd!!! That means you have half a week to find an empty shoebox, choose whether you want to send gifts to a boy and girl, determine the approximate age that your gifts would best suit, fill the box, put a rubber band around it and bring it to church. Remember that for each box, a $7 donation is requested to help cover the cost of shipping. That donation may be made by writing a check to Samaritan’s Purse or online as well. Click on the link below for a detailed description of this process. Where it says drop off at a local collection center, please just bring it to Northwest on the 23rd. Thanks for making Christmas possible for resourceless children around the world!
